AMERICA’S HIDDEN HISTORY:
LESSONS YOUR TEACHERS NEVER TAUGHT YOU IN SCHOOL
Robert
P. Watson
DESCRIPTION: Let’s
go behind the scenes and uncover history your teachers never taught you.
Throughout this eight-week series, we will examine both the well known moments
in history (in order to explore the forgotten tidbits and back-stories of
those famous events), and the not-so-well-known events and individuals who
shaped our history but never made it into the textbooks. Together, we will
play historical detective, exploring the tricks of the trade used by professional
historians, and the challenges limiting our historical understanding. Along
the way, you will learn about several fascinating and controversial, as well
as triumphant and tragic individuals and events that shaped American history.
EIGHT LECTURES:
The challenges of studying history
Humorous moments in history
Heroes of history
Scallywags and poltroons from history
‘What-were-they-thinking’ moments in
history
Tragic moments in history
Some personal, favorite stories from history
Lessons from history
