DESCRIPTION: During the
realm of the Hollywood movie studios, each of the film production companies
developed a roster of movie stars that the public came to idolize. Names
like Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid
Bergman, Clark Gable, James Stewart and Judy Garland are examples of film
stars who became legendary. Each lecture will focus on one of the aforementioned
performers and discuss their professional and personal lives. We will view
scenes from several of their classic films and questions from the audience
will be addressed.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Howard
Oboler received his BA degree from Cornell where he was elected
to Phi Beta Kappa and awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. He spent his business
career
as a Management Consultant with Ernst & Young, the international accounting
firm. Upon retirement, he returned to academia and received an MA degree
in American Studies from Columbia. For the past 15 years he has been giving
courses that focus on American popular culture at various venues in New
York City, including NYU and The 92nd St. Y. He also teaches in South Florida
at FAU, PBCC, The Skolnick Center in Pompano Beach and for the Brandeis
National Women’s Committee.
