LGBTQA Resource Center Mission

The FAU LGBTQA Resource Center’s mission is to provide resources and encourage a supportive campus environment in which LGBTQA students can achieve personal and academic excellence, as well as to provide information to members of the FAU community seeking to understand the experiences of LGBTQA students.

FAU Safe Zone

History

The FAU Student Affairs Department Owls Care Health Promotion first initiated the Safe Zone Ally Program in 1998. The Safe Zone Ally Program educates students, staff, and faculty on issues relating to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community and fosters allies throughout our campus. Hundreds of FAU campus community members have participated in this program and are often identified by a Safe Zone magnet in their working or living spaces.

It was through this group of allies that the dialogue regarding the establishment of an LGBTQA Resource Center at FAU first began. Through an exciting and inspiring University-wide collaborative effort, the LGBTQA Resource Center found a home with the Office of Multicultural Affairs & Pre-College Programs in Spring 2011. Shortly thereafter, many students found a home as well.
