Shontae White is the Director of Student Involvement. Shontae comes to us from the University of Florida where he served as the assistant director of Student Activities and Involvement for nine years.  Prior to that he worked as Program Advisor for five years at the University of Connecticut and the director of Student Activities for two years at the University of The Arts.

He is heavily involved in NASPA, NACA and ACPA. He is also an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. where he holds various leadership positions in the district and region.  Shontae is a proud Temple Owl where he received his BA in Theater.

Katie Burke was named Director of L.E.A.D. in July of 2014 assuming responsibility of the leadership education and development programming for Student Involvement, the area of student organizations, advisement of the Council of Student Organizations, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society and more.

Katie began employment at FAU in the summer of 2008 as the Graduate Assistant Director of the Boca Raton Graduate Council. After graduating with her Master’s, she was hired as the Specialist for Student Involvement, then moved to Coordinator for L.E.A.D in July of 2011 and was promoted to the Assistant Director of L.E.A.D in the spring of 2012. She is extremely passionate about working with students and proud to be a part of all of the changes made in Student Involvement & Leadership at FAU.

Katie received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Communication and Multimedia Studies from the FAU. She is also a Certified Facilitator of The Student Leadership Challenge™.

Mike Burdman grew attached to FAU in 2006 as an involved undergraduate student leader.  Immediately after graduating in 2009 with a degree in Studio and Graphic Arts from the College of Arts and Letters, Mike began working for the Office of Alumni Relations as a Graduate Assistant overseeing the Student Alumni Association, prOWLers and FAU Student Ambassadors.  Mike was then hired as the Coordinator of Student Government in 2011. Known around campus as one of FAU's biggest and most dedicated fans, Mike is responsible for creating several lasting traditions at FAU including the Annual Fall Bonfire and also installing the Taylor Victory Bell in 2010.  

Mike uses his love for art and his creativity to produce exciting events and programs for the students while serving now as the Coordinator of Programming for the Department of Student Involvement. Mike is currently responsible for overseeing Program Board, the Mascot Program, Night Owls and the marketing and promotion of campus activities.  Mike is also the designer of most of the departments marketing materials, flyers and annual calendars. 

Mike received his Masters in Higher Education and Leadership from Florida Atlantic University in 2013.

LaVar Jamison was named Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life June of 2013 where he advises the governing councils of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC).

LaVar serves as a liaison to all NPHC and MGC chapter advisors and the Councils’ member organizations national offices.  LaVar also advises Order of Omega Honor Society and directs the scholarship initiatives within the fraternity and sorority community.  He also serves as the co-advisor to the Sunshine State Classic Stepshow Committee.

LaVar began employment at FAU in the Summer of 2012.  Prior to joining the Student Involvement  Team, LaVar worked in the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA).  While in OMA, LaVar worked with the cultural clubs serving as an advisor attending meetings, holding 1:1s and assisted in the planning of large signature events for the groups.  In addition to the aforementioned, LaVar facilitated diversity activities with SLS classes and as needed for various campus partners when requested.  LaVar is a student-centered professional who keeps a 24 hour work schedule in an effort to meet with students and student groups when time permits for them.

LaVar received his Bachelor’s Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. LaVar also attended the University of Miami where he completed his Master’s degree.  While there, LaVar lived-on and volunteered in many capacities with Housing and Residential Life, student groups and served as advisor for the Omicron Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which won scholastic accolades for multiples years as well as chapter of the year while under his guidance.  LaVar has been the advisor for the chapter at UM for nearly ten years and has won Advisor of the year for the two past years.

Elaine Jahnsen joined the Student Involvement staff in January 2014 as the Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life overseeing the College Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council. Elaine received her Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership from FAU in May 2013, where she worked as a Graduate Assistant for Student Conduct and Orientation. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a minor in Journalism from Stetson University. She is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA), and serves as a Province President for her Greek organization, Zeta Tau Alpha.

Ashley Williams is the Assistant Director of L.E.A.D for Student Involvement. She began employment at Florida Atlantic University in 2012 as the L.E.A.D Graduate Assistant for Student Involvement & Leadership. In Spring of 2013 Ms. Williams transitioned to the Weppner Center for Civic Engagement & Service where she served as a Program Planner and Alternative Breaks Advisor. She later progressed to a Coordinator position for Student Involvement & Leadership, Davie Campus.

Ashley is passionate about connecting and building tradition with students of the FAU community. She enjoys empowering and liberating the leaders in others.

Ashley received her Master's of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership from FAU and her Bachelor's degree in Family Youth and Community Sciences with a Minor in Education from the University of Florida. She is also involved with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

Khambrel Ward joined the Weppner Center team as the Jupiter representative in Fall 2013. He is currently the Assistant Director for Student Involvement on the Boca campus. Khambrel received his bachelor’s degree in Family Youth and Community Sciences from the University of Florida and a Master’s degree in Minority and Urban Education from the University of Maryland-College Park.

Devin has worked in Student Affairs at FAU's Jupiter Campus since January 2012. She currently serves as an Assistant Director in Student Involvement. In this role she advises Program Board, Council of Student Organization (COSO) and facilities leadership development on the Jupiter Campus.

She obtained her Master's degree in Educational Leadership: Higher Education from FAU Prior to her experience in higher education, she worked in the field of recreation, graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor's in Leisure, Youth & Human Services.

Peggy Joseph is the Associate Director for Student Involvement for the Broward Campuses. Ms. Joseph received both her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management and Master’s of Education Degree in Higher Education Leadership at Florida Atlantic University.

Ms. Joseph began employment at Florida Atlantic University in the Spring of 2009 as the Web Administrator for the Division of Student Affairs. In Spring of 2011 transferred to the Student Union Department to become the Communications and Events Specialist. Then in the Summer of 2012 worked with the office of New Student and Owl Family Programs as the New Student Program Specialist. After graduating with her Master’s, Ms. Joseph became the Coordinator for Student Affairs on the Jupiter Campus. After a year’s service on the Jupiter Campus, in the Fall of 2013, Ms. Joseph was hired as the Associate Director for Student Involvement & Leadership on the Broward Campus.

Ms. Joseph currently serves as the Regional Assistant for Alpha Nu Omega Sorority, Inc. and is involved with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). She is extremely passionate about working with students and inspiring others to grow.
