Business & Professional Women's Scholarship House

The FAU Business and Professional Women s Scholarship House (BPWSH) was established to provide campus housing for women with strong academic promise and substantial outside financial assistance in order to attend FAU. The BPWSH is a cooperative living/learning facility where 16 women share leadership experience, develop life skills, and community responsibilities.

The FAU Department of Housing and Residential Life, through Residence Life staff, oversee the BPWSH operation. The BPWSH is truly a cooperative living environment in which residents learn skills necessary to run the house effectively and efficiently. Through their elected officers, residents are responsible for all house operations, including finances, cleaning, purchasing and preparing food.

  BPW Scholarship House Program

The BPWSH participation is not a cash scholarship but rather provides a low-cost cooperative living/learning program and housing with other BPWSH Program participants. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN TUITION AND BOOKS. Recipients may remain in the house until the completion of their degree as long as they meet the terms of the Program, continue to show financial need and are re-admitted into the house through the annual re-application/interview process.

  Withdrawal

Acceptance into the FAU BPWSH Program includes an agreement (as stated in the application) to live in the house. Withdrawals during the semester penalize other residents; both financially and by imposing more responsibilities on the other residents. Therefore, residents who withdraw during a semester are required to meet financial obligations through the end of that academic semester unless special situations allow for other arrangements.

Residents who wish to withdraw must make a written notice in advance to the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Included in this letter should be: Name, Z Number , Room Number, Term, and reason for leaving the house.

Near the end of each academic semester residents are required to complete a commitment form indicating whether they intend to extend their Agreement through the next semester providing the academic, financial and program requirements are met. Residents who do not return this commitment form are considered withdrawn from the BPWSH Program. Residents who withdraw for one or more semesters, excluding summer, are not guaranteed a position if they return, except under special predetermined conditions.
