What is Emotional Wellness?
Emotional Wellness is the ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, fear, sadness or stress; hope, love, joy and happiness in a productive manner contributes to our Emotional Wellness. Emotional wellness includes having a balance in life, having a positive outlook, and being self-aware. Someone with emotional wellness is capable of handling stress or the little ups and downs of life. If trauma hits, they are better prepared to handle it. This person is capable of saying no and can express themselves. They are able to communicate their feelings and have a healthy dose of empathy. The emotionally well person has a thankful outlook on life, is capable of forgiveness and is self-motivating. This person has a support system in place for the tough times, knows how to self-regulate and is resilient. Having knowledge of a healthy relationships and striving to create and maintain those is also a sign of the emotionally well.
