Of Manatees and Men
Presented by Dr. Edmund Gerstein
Florida Atlantic University
About the Lecture
Join Dr. Edmund Gerstein for a multimedia presentation on manatee sensory biology and behavior in relation to boat collisions and challenges for co-existence with humans. Dr. Gerstein is the Director of Marine Mammal Research and Behavior in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. His pioneering research defined the hearing abilities of Florida manatees as well as the acoustics of ship strikes; this work revealed underlying acoustical factors which render both manatees and large whales vulnerable to boat and ship collisions.
