A Message for all FAU Sport Clubs
Dear Sport Club Community Members,
Sport Clubs at Florida Atlantic University provide hundreds of students the opportunity to learn or compete in a sport they love. Regardless of activity, Sport Clubs emphasize leadership, student development and teamwork. Characterized by being student‐initiated and student‐managed, the basic structure of a Club allows members numerous opportunities for leadership and decision‐making.
The actual success and strength of the Club is dependent on effective leadership of the officers and the degree of involvement of the Club members and faculty advisors. Sport Clubs should not be exclusive and there should be no pressure for new members to earn or prove their membership. These pressures may result in your participation or your agreement to perform actions that would be considered hazing.
Hazing is inconsistent with the ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play as well as the basic values of this university. Florida Atlantic University does not condone or tolerate hazing among any student(s) or student organization(s). Hazing not only violates the student code of conduct but is also illegal in the state of Florida. Additionally it is expected that all persons who participate in, coach or assist with Sport Clubs uphold and abide by federal, state and local ordinances as well as University policies. All recognized Sport Clubs of Florida Atlantic University are expected to follow the safety and risk management practices outlined by their specific sport organizing, sanctioning or governing bodies.
To report acts of hazing, please contact the Dean of Student Affairs Office at 561-297-3542 or online at http://www.fau.edu/studentconduct/hazing.php
. You are encouraged to provide as much specific detail as possible so that appropriate action can be taken to address the reported behavior. You have the option to submit a report anonymously, though officials may find it difficult to complete their investigation without knowing the source of the report.
Thank you for your support of this initiative and Go Owls!
