Student Code of Conduct

The Office for Student Conduct (OSC) is a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The purpose of the Office for Student Conduct is to support the educational mission of Florida Atlantic University by administering the Student Code of Conduct (http://www.fau.edu/regulations/chapter4/4.007_Student_Code_of_Conduct.pdf) and serving as a resource to the university community and beyond.

The mission of the Office for Student Conduct is to promote a safe and secure University community of civility, integrity, and student learning and development, as well as responsible, healthy behavior, and to provide fairness in the student discipline process.

The Office for Student Conduct fulfills this mission by:

• Developing, disseminating, interpreting, and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct; 
• Educating students about their rights and responsibilities as University community members; 
• Supporting students during these experiences in an effort to foster maturity; independence, confidence, and life-long learning skills;
• Encourage students to assume self and social responsibility; and,
• Offering educational and leadership opportunities for students who participate in the operation of the Student Discipline System.

OSC is also responsible for investigating alleged violations of University Regulations and Policies and for implementing the student discipline process. An educational and holistic approach to student discipline is employed whenever possible.

Students, faculty and staff who believe there has been a violation can contact the Office of Student Conduct at the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Office to discuss options available for reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities. Office staff also assists victims of assault or harassment by a University student, and they are also available for educational programs on a variety of related topics.

OSC has student leadership opportunities by getting involved with Student Ambassadors of Civility and Ethics (ACE). The purpose of the (ACE) is to promote ethical behavior by educating the student body about their rights and responsibilities as members of the Florida Atlantic University community. Ambassadors will learn about student rights and responsibilities, the Student Code of Conduct, and the student conduct board hearing processes in order to serve as resources among their peers. Ambassadors will promote ethical behavior by disseminating literature on campus, by helping to plan, advertise, and participate in Ethics and Civility Week in the spring, and by assisting the Office for Student Conduct with various outreach initiatives.
