What to do if you think, or know, that your identity has been stolen:

1. Place a fraud alert on your credit reports and review your credit reports.
Contact the main credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, Transunion). Check your credit report to see if there has been unexpected or unauthorized activity. Have a fraud alerts placed on your credit reports to prevent new accounts being opened without verification.

2. Close the accounts that you know, or believe, have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.
Contact all companies, including banks, where you have accounts and Inform the companies where you have accounts that someone may be using your identity, and find out if there have been any unauthorized transactions. Close accounts so that future charges are denied. In addition to calling the company, send a letter so there is a record of the problem.

3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
You can file a complaint with the FTC using the online complaint form (at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov); call the FTC's Identity Theft Hotline, toll-free: 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338); TTY: 1-866-653-4261; or write the Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580. Be sure to call the Hotline to update your complaint if you have any additional information or problems.

4. File a report with your local police or the police in the community where the identity theft took place.

5. Consider other information that may be at risk.
Depending what information was stolen, you may need to contact other agencies; for example, if a thief has access to your Social Security number, contact the Social Security Administration. You should also contact the Department of Motor Vehicles if your driver's license or car registration has been stolen.

In order to support faculty and increase access to and enrollment in eLearning, the Center for eLearning requests faculty proposals for eLearning course development and delivery. Faculty selected in this process will receive a stipend of $3,000 to:
- Complete a training program and develop an online course during the fall of 2012
- Teach the newly developed course as an overload at least once by the end of fall 2013. The overload instruction rate will be $6,000 for full-time faculty and $4,500 for part-time faculty.

The fall program consists of 6 units delivered over 11 weeks during fall 2012 and includes 3 face-to-face meetings scheduled on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The remaining coursework will be completed online. To be successful in this course, we estimate that you will need to commit to 12 hours of work per week. Faculty can also receive up to 6 hours of individual assistance from instructional designers. Open lab hours with instructional designers will also be available.

Participants will need to confirm their working knowledge of Blackboard via two assessments prior to beginning the program. Instructions for these assessments and information on how to prepare for them will be forwarded to the selected candidates.

1. High demand courses with consistent enrollment demand over the last three years including summers
2. Courses that are deemed strategic in planning eLearning degree programs
3. Courses that are part of an existing eLearning plan within your College/School/Department.

On Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m., in CU 321, Boca Raton campus, Dr. Raphael Dalleo, Department of English, will present "Bourideu and Postcolonial Studies" -- the latest lecture in the Center for Body, Mind and Culture's Coffee Colloquium Series.

Abstract: Postcolonial studies emerged as an academic discipline in the 1980s as figures like Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak, and Homi Bhabha adapted post-structural theory by Foucault, Derrida, and Lacan to examinations of the non-European world. By the 1990s, the center of the field shifted to Paul Gilroy's and Antonio Benítez-Rojo's interest in the rhizomes of Deleuze and Guattari. But in the last 10 years, the European theorist who has inspired the most innovative and important work in postcolonial studies has been Pierre Bourdieu. Graham Huggan's The Postcolonial Exotic (2001) crystalized much of the anxiety about the field's institutionalization, inspiring new work from Sarah Brouillette and Richard Watts, as well as surprising turns towards sociological approaches to postcolonial literature by previously post-structuralist critics like Chris Bongie. In this presentation, I will explore the reasons for this turn towards Bourdieu as well as its implications for our understanding both of Bourdieu's work and of postcolonial studies as a field.

The Charles E. Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, Ph.D., is the acting Director of the "Regulation of Retroviral Infections" Unit in the Department of Virology at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. She has been involved in retrovirology research since the early 1970s. She is recognized for her contributions to HIV/AIDS research, in particular as the first author of the publication that reported in 1983 the discovery of the cause of AIDS, a retrovirus, later named HIV. She has authored/co-authored 250 original publications and more than 120 articles in book reviews and the recipient of more than 10 national or international awards, including the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 together with Prof. Luc Montagnier for her contributions to HIV/AIDS. "What Feminism Means to Me," a free exhibition of art and poetry that explores interconnectedness, empowerment, abuse, gender stereotypes and expectations, is on display at the Wimberly Library, first floor west, through Friday, May 4. The Women's Studies Graduate Student Association and MFA students in the Department of Visual Arts and Art History are sponsoring the exhibition in honor of Women's History Month. The John D. MacArthur Campus Library is hosting "Here and There," a series of evocative images by Kristen O. Murtaugh, through Friday, May 11, at the John D. MacArthur Campus Library Gallery. Dr. Murtaugh retired from FAU in 2010 after 18 years or service. The exhibition draws viewers into private worlds and quiet public spaces and features black and white as well as color images that focus on form, pattern and texture. The University Galleries is presenting the landmark exhibition "Surfing Florida: A Photographic History" through Saturday, May 12. The exhibition has been developed for the past three years by University Galleries Director W. Rod Faulds and Paul Aho, the exhibition's curator, a lifelong Florida surfer and head of photography and digital imaging at the Paducah School of Art. Surfing Florida employs "media stations" to present film, video, music and interviews with historic surfers. Whether you call them pop-up books or moveable books, there's no doubt that books with elements that pop up, slide, twirl and change before your eyes are just plain fun. And fun is the general idea behind this great collection of books recently given to FAU Libraries by Arthur J. Williams. The Arthur J. Williams Pop-Up Collection is comprised of 425 pop-up and moveable books, and the collection has found a perfect home at FAU Libraries' Jaffe Center for Book Arts, where it is permanently housed, enabling students and researchers an opportunity to study the mechanics of pop-ups. The exhibition is displayed in the Jaffe Center for Book Arts and throughout the rest of the Wimberly Library on the Boca Raton campus.

Clinical Research Studies at FAU's College of Medicine is conducting a clinical research trial to evaluate the effectiveness of an investigational medication for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The Language Development Lab, under the direction of Professor Erika Hoff, is conducting a federally funded study of early monolingual and bilingual development. We are looking for 24- to 30-month-old children who are learning Spanish at home and at least one parent was born in a Spanish-speaking country. For participating, you will receive $150 in gift cards and your child will get a gift and a t-shirt. With your permission, we will contact you again every 6 months until your child is 5 years old. We will pay for your time at each visit. If you complete this study through the age of 5 years, you will receive a total of $1,000 in gift cards.

We are also looking for 24- to 30-month-old children who are learning only English at home. For participating, you will receive $50 in gift cards and your child will get a gift and a t-shirt. With your permission, we will contact you again every 6 months until your child is 5 years old. We will pay you for your time at each visit. If you complete the study through the age of 5 years you will receive a total of $400 in gift cards. We plan to study children's language development from 2 years and 6 months to 5 years.

The purpose of these studies is to gain a better understanding of how language develops during this period. We will come to your home or you can come to our playroom on the Davie campus of Florida Atlantic University or to our office on the Boca Raton campus -- whichever is easier for you. The Communication Disorders Clinic is located on the 4th floor of the College of Education building on the Boca Raton campus and provides speech, language and hearing diagnostic and therapy services -- including accent reduction therapy -- to children and adults. Services are available Monday through Friday during every semester on a space-available basis. Appointments for diagnostic or treatment services may be made by calling Maria at 561-297-2258. Payment can now be made by VISA or MasterCard.

The clinic offers Stroke Support and a Stuttering Support groups, each meeting once a month. Interested parties should contact the clinic for details. FAU faculty and staff members and their families receive a 50 percent discount for all services. Full-time FAU students receive a 50 percent discount for evaluations and then are charged $10 per treatment session.
