The annual ceremony recognizes the University's most outstanding students and faculty. Students to be honored include the University Scholars, the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar, the Stan and Renee Wimberly Scholar, the Distinguished Student Award, the University Club Merit Award, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Scholars and the Student-Athletes of the Year. The faculty honors include the researchers/scholars of the year, excellence in teaching and advising and the keynote speech from Dr. Deborah Louda from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, the 2011-12 Distinguished Teacher of the Year. NOTE: Academic regalia is appropriate attire for faculty members.

At this ceremony the late Mr. Marvin Weiner will be honored posthumously with an honorary doctorate of humane letters in recognition of his remarkable lifetime scholarly achievement in creating the Marvin and Sybil Weiner Spirit of America Collection. The collection, a treasure trove of Revolutionary War-era documents, was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Weiner to the FAU Libraries, elevating FAU to the major resource center in the southeastern United States for the study of the American Colonial period. Dr. Howard Weiner will accept the honorary doctorate on his father's behalf.

- Friday, May 4 at 1 p.m.: Graduates from the College of Education and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. At this ceremony Mr. Jaime Borras '74, '81 will be inducted into the FAU National Alumni Association Hall of Fame. A pioneer and innovator in the wireless telecommunications industry who holds 42 United States utility patents, Mr. Borras is chief executive officer of WSG (Wireless Silicon Group) Inc., a Florida-based consulting firm.

Because of the need to accommodate all of the graduates and their guests, admission is by ticket only. The ceremonies are held in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Center located in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus and will be webcast. Boca Raton campus employees are reminded that traffic will be especially heavy on both days, particularly at the Glades Road entrance. In order to support faculty and increase access to and enrollment in eLearning, the Center for eLearning requests faculty proposals for eLearning course development and delivery. Faculty selected in this process will receive a stipend of $3,000 to:
- Complete a training program and develop an online course during the fall of 2012
- Teach the newly developed course as an overload at least once by the end of fall 2013. The overload instruction rate will be $6,000 for full-time faculty and $4,500 for part-time faculty.

The fall program consists of 6 units delivered over 11 weeks during fall 2012 and includes 3 face-to-face meetings scheduled on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The remaining coursework will be completed online. To be successful in this course, we estimate that you will need to commit to 12 hours of work per week. Faculty can also receive up to 6 hours of individual assistance from instructional designers. Open lab hours with instructional designers will also be available.

Participants will need to confirm their working knowledge of Blackboard via two assessments prior to beginning the program. Instructions for these assessments and information on how to prepare for them will be forwarded to the selected candidates.

Proposals will be reviewed and priority given to:
1. High demand courses with consistent enrollment demand over the last three years including summers
2. Courses that are deemed strategic in planning eLearning degree programs
3. Courses that are part of an existing eLearning plan within your College/School/Department.

Don't miss out on the chance to sign up to be a volunteer for the Spring 2012 Night Breakfast. What to do if you think, or know, that your identity has been stolen:

1. Place a fraud alert on your credit reports and review your credit reports.
Contact the main credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, Transunion). Check your credit report to see if there has been unexpected or unauthorized activity. Have a fraud alerts placed on your credit reports to prevent new accounts being opened without verification.

2. Close the accounts that you know, or believe, have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.
Contact all companies, including banks, where you have accounts and Inform the companies where you have accounts that someone may be using your identity, and find out if there have been any unauthorized transactions. Close accounts so that future charges are denied. In addition to calling the company, send a letter so there is a record of the problem.

3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
You can file a complaint with the FTC using the online complaint form (at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov); call the FTC's Identity Theft Hotline, toll-free: 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338); TTY: 1-866-653-4261; or write the Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580. Be sure to call the Hotline to update your complaint if you have any additional information or problems.

4. File a report with your local police or the police in the community where the identity theft took place.
File a report with the local police so there is an official record of the incident.

5. Consider other information that may be at risk.
Depending what information was stolen, you may need to contact other agencies; for example, if a thief has access to your Social Security number, contact the Social Security Administration. You should also contact the Department of Motor Vehicles if your driver's license or car registration has been stolen.

The Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award was established to recognize and encourage outstanding mentoring of graduate students. The FAU Astronomical Observatory will be celebrating the Opposition of Saturn to the Sun on Tuesday, April 17. An opposition event offers the best conditions to observe an outer planet for the year. It is time once again for the annual FAU Employee Service Awards Ceremony. This year's awards will be held on Wednesday, April 18, in the Live Oak Pavilion on the Boca Raton campus.

The University will recognize completed years of service for regular full-time and part-time employees with continued and completed service of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 45 years at FAU as of 2011.

Please observe these very important points:
- Temporary and adjunct years of service do not apply toward years of service.
- Only employment years working for FAU apply.
- Other State of Florida service or State University System service cannot be added to years of service at FAU.
- Service must be continuous, with no break in service years.
- Service is calculated in "completed" years of service as of Dec. 31, 2011.

Employees celebrating 5 through 15 years of service will not be called up individually for recognition but will be recognized respectfully in groups. Their awards will be available for pick-up at the ceremony.

Employees with 20 through 45 years of service will be called up individually to receive their awards. The electronic check-in for 20-year through 45-year recipients will commence at 8:30 a.m., and refreshments will be served at that time. The program will start at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The University will also acknowledge winners of this year's President's Leadership Awards, Jeffrey Gabor Exemplary Employee Awards, the TIAA CREF Faculty Award and the VALIC Customer Service Award.

The Department of Theatre will present "Dangerous Liaisons," a play by Christopher Hampton, on Friday, April 20, through Sunday, April 22, in the Studio One Theatre on Boca Raton campus. The Charles E. Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, Ph.D., is the acting Director of the "Regulation of Retroviral Infections" Unit in the Department of Virology at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. She has been involved in retrovirology research since the early 1970s. She is recognized for her contributions to HIV/AIDS research, in particular as the first author of the publication that reported in 1983 the discovery of the cause of AIDS, a retrovirus, later named HIV. She has authored/co-authored 250 original publications and more than 120 articles in book reviews and the recipient of more than 10 national or international awards, including the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 together with Prof. Luc Montagnier for her contributions to HIV/AIDS. At this ceremony Mr. Jaime Borras '74, '81 will be inducted into the FAU National Alumni Association Hall of Fame. A pioneer and innovator in the wireless telecommunications industry who holds 42 United States utility patents, Mr. Borras is chief executive officer of WSG (Wireless Silicon Group) Inc., a Florida-based consulting firm.

Because of the need to accommodate all of the graduates and their guests, admission is by ticket only. The ceremonies are held in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Center located in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus and will be webcast. Boca Raton campus employees are reminded that traffic will be especially heavy on both days, particularly at the Glades Road entrance. Whether you call them pop-up books or moveable books, there's no doubt that books with elements that pop up, slide, twirl and change before your eyes are just plain fun. And fun is the general idea behind this great collection of books recently given to FAU Libraries by Arthur J. Williams. The Arthur J. Williams Pop-Up Collection is comprised of 425 pop-up and moveable books, and the collection has found a perfect home at FAU Libraries' Jaffe Center for Book Arts, where it is permanently housed, enabling students and researchers an opportunity to study the mechanics of pop-ups.

An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Gallery Talk by Matthew Reinhart at 7 p.m. in the Jaffe Book Arts Gallery. Reinhart's amazing pop-up books include "The Pop Up Book of Phobias" and "Star Wars: Pop Up Guide to the Galaxy." "What Feminism Means to Me," a free exhibition of art and poetry that explores interconnectedness, empowerment, abuse, gender stereotypes and expectations, is on display at the Wimberly Library, first floor west, through Friday, May 4. The University Galleries is presenting the landmark exhibition "Surfing Florida: A Photographic History" through Saturday, May 12. The exhibition has been developed for the past three years by University Galleries Director W. Rod Faulds and Paul Aho, the exhibition's curator, a lifelong Florida surfer and head of photography and digital imaging at the Paducah School of Art. Surfing Florida employs "media stations" to present film, video, music and interviews with historic surfers. Clinical Research Studies at FAU's College of Medicine is conducting a clinical research trial to evaluate the effectiveness of an investigational medication for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The Language Development Lab, under the direction of Professor Erika Hoff, is conducting a federally funded study of early monolingual and bilingual development. We are looking for 24- to 30-month-old children who are learning Spanish at home and at least one parent was born in a Spanish-speaking country. For participating, you will receive $150 in gift cards and your child will get a gift and a t-shirt. With your permission, we will contact you again every 6 months until your child is 5 years old. We will pay for your time at each visit. If you complete this study through the age of 5 years, you will receive a total of $1,000 in gift cards.

We are also looking for 24- to 30-month-old children who are learning only English at home. For participating, you will receive $50 in gift cards and your child will get a gift and a t-shirt. With your permission, we will contact you again every 6 months until your child is 5 years old. We will pay you for your time at each visit. If you complete the study through the age of 5 years you will receive a total of $400 in gift cards. We plan to study children's language development from 2 years and 6 months to 5 years.

The purpose of these studies is to gain a better understanding of how language develops during this period. We will come to your home or you can come to our playroom on the Davie campus of Florida Atlantic University or to our office on the Boca Raton campus -- whichever is easier for you. The Communication Disorders Clinic is located on the 4th floor of the College of Education building on the Boca Raton campus and provides speech, language and hearing diagnostic and therapy services -- including accent reduction therapy -- to children and adults. Services are available Monday through Friday during every semester on a space-available basis. Appointments for diagnostic or treatment services may be made by calling Maria at 561-297-2258. Payment can now be made by VISA or MasterCard.

The clinic offers Stroke Support and a Stuttering Support groups, each meeting once a month. Interested parties should contact the clinic for details. FAU faculty and staff members and their families receive a 50 percent discount for all services. Full-time FAU students receive a 50 percent discount for evaluations and then are charged $10 per treatment session.
