Johnnie Stover

Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the English Department, Johnnie Stover completed her Ph.D at Florida State University in 1997.  Her areas of teaching expertise include 19th and 20th Century American Literature, African American Literature, Women’s Literature, Southern Literature, and Native American Literature.  She has published a book entitled Rhetoric and Resistance in Black Women’s Autobiography (University Press of Florida, 2003), has published essays in College English and in Auto/Biography, and has contributed to literary encyclopedias that include articles on Zora Neale Hurston and Toni Morrison.  Her current areas of research include Zora Neale Hurston’s years in Fort Pierce, Florida, and the relevance of women writers as trickster figures.
