Florida Atlantic University College of Education (COE) doctoral candidate, Shernette Dunn, received a prestigious, national award from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) National Academy Preparatory School in Colorado for her outstanding leadership.
Dunn received the award for her work with the Academy’s 2023 incoming class. Dunn was instrumental in the development of College Success and Faculty Orientation courses for the USAF. The courses have allowed faculty and advisors to better assist students to adapt to a stressful military environment.
“I was very happy and proud and owe this in part to the instructors in the leadership and technology programs at FAU,” stated Dunn.
She acknowledged that, in part, her success was due to the help and support received from COE faculty. Dunn singled out Valerie Bryan, Ph.D., and Susan Dennett, Ph.D., department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, as having significantly supported and advised her along the journey through the doctoral program.
“She is one OWL that is truly representing FAU beyond the Florida border. Her work with the National Service Academy and her teaching skills are now merged with her exceptional leadership skills,” said Valerie Bryan.
Congratulations Shernette!
