María D. Vásquez, Ph.D. sends out greetings in Teaching Educational Research, a newsletter of the AERA (American Educational Research Association) Professors of Educational Research SIG (Special Interest Groups), July 21, 2020, Issue 3.

"I hope this message finds you well. While teaching virtual classes in research methodology and educational assessment at Florida Atlantic University, I continue working on my assessment literacy projects and on the use of standardized assessment, especially among Hispanics and other minorities. I often discuss with my students, our future educators and scholars, the value of speaking and using the methodological languages of quantitative and qualitative designs. Also, I am thankful for having a wireless connection that allows me to engage with my professional communities and with my family in Peru. Being in quarantine has boosted creativity and opened opportunities for collaborating, learning and empowerment through knowledge and research. Stay well and safe. Cheers," Maria.

Vásquez, 2018-19 SIG Chair, currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, with primary responsibilities in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in educational research, educational measurement and educational statistics. She serves as the Associate Editor for the Florida Journal of Educational Research and as a FERA board director as well.

Special Interest Groups provide a forum within AERA for individuals drawn together by a common interest in a field of study, teaching, or research. SIG promotes and maintains discussions about the latest approaches, theories, methods, and practices relevant to educational research philosophy and methodology (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and generates and disseminates knowledge about effective practices for teaching educational research. The SIG also promotes dialog and collaboration with other social/behavioral science fields in discussing, generating, and promoting advances in research practices.
