Dr. Jennifer Bloom, Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology at FAU is the recipient of the Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Field of Advising from NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising as part of the 2017 Global Awards Program for Academic Advising.

This award is presented to a NACADA member who has made significant contributions to the field of academic advising. This award is named for Virginia N. Gordon, whose contributions have been and still are critical to the field of advising.

Bloom is a co-founder of the Appreciative Advising and Appreciative Education movements. She established the annual Appreciative Advising Summer Institute, the Appreciative Education Conference, an on-line Appreciative Advising course, the process for Certifying Appreciative Advisers, and other exciting initiatives related to Appreciative Advising and Appreciative Education.

Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.

Bloom will be honored and presented with this award in St. Louis, MO during the NACADA Annual Conference in October.
