The department of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry (CCEI) at FAU is proud to launch the Educational Equity Partnership Project (EEPP) in collaboration with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS). The EEPP is funded by a Teaching Incentive Fund (TIF) grant awarded to BCPS. The TIF program funds projects that develop performance-based teacher compensation systems in high-needs schools to increase students’ access to effective educators which leads to gains in student academic achievement. FAU professors will deliver professional development to educators who will in-turn implement and disseminate insights with educators in their respective schools and beyond.

An EEPP orientation was held at FAU Davie where participants also received books and materials for the project. Dilys Schoorman, Ph.D., Chair of CCEI and Project Leader for the EEPP underscored FAU’s commitment to working in partnership with teachers to reclaim our schools as places of joyful learning, and to develop our collective understanding of how best to serve students of diverse populations.

In her Welcome to the group, Ms. Angela Brown, Director of Coaching and Induction, BCPS, emphasized that the project had garnered interest at the federal level as a model for engagement on matters of educational equity.

During this three-year partnership, CCEI will offer selected Master Teachers in Title 1 schools five 6-8 week professional development modules in multicultural education, research and advocacy. The research-based modules will continually evolve through implementation, gathering teachers’ feedback, and analyzing to inform change.

Module One begins in October and is taught by FAU professors Traci Baxley, Ed.D. and Kalisha Waldon, Ph.D.
