Freshman Convocation 2013
Event Details
At least 2,500 freshman are expected to attend the 2013 Freshman Convocation, to be held at 1:00 p.m., August 25, in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium. The event officially marks the beginning of the new academic year with classes starting on August 26.
The keynote speaker will be 2013 Distinguish Teacher of the Year (tba).
The academic procession will be led by Dr. William McDaniel, the President of the University Faculty Senate. Following will be Dr. Edward Pratt, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the 2013 Distinguish Teacher of the Year; Dr. Brenda J. Claiborne, Provost and Chief Academic Officer; and Dr. Mary Jane Saunders, President of Florida Atlantic University.
The convocation will feature music performed by the FAU Marching Owls led by Dr. Sean Murray, Assistant Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands.
At the end of the ceremony all freshman will be presented with a blue and silver academic cord. The cord represents the student's commitment to achieving academic excellence and success at FAU and it represents the beginning of a life-long connection to FAU.
