1. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of October 25 meeting were approved as distributed.

2. Report on Results of November 3rd UUPC Meeting

Tony attended the UUPC meeting on November 3 to submit for their approval the "purpose of the core curriculum" paragraphs, naming the core the Intellectual Foundations Program and the requirement that all core courses be identified as such in their syllabi which also must speak to core purpose.  The UUPC approved all three with the exception that the requirement that each course in the core should have in its syllabus a concise explanation on how it contributes to meeting the purpose of the core was made optional.  How the statement is written is up to the faculty member.  Tony will be attending the UFS Steering Committee on Tuesday, November 21 to present these items for their approval.  Tony will raise the issue of the optional syllabus statement and ask that it be required.  The issues will then go on to the Senate meeting for their approval.

3. Agenda Item for December 1st UUPC Meeting

Tony will ask to be on the agenda for the Dec. 1st UUPC meeting to discuss the freshman reading program.  Fred asked who would be administering the book and will the book be tied into ENC 1101/1102.  He stated that these are concerns that the UUPC will bring up.  After much discussion Tony stated he will not ask for approval of the program, instead he will ask the UUPC to take the issue back to their colleges for feedback.  Tony will write up a one-page proposal for this if asked.

4. Tim Lenz's Write-Up on Attempts to Change Core Curriculum

Tony asked Tim to summarize his comments on our attempts to change core curriculum.  Tim stated he would like people to look at how difficult revision in the core is.  He thinks it would be useful to go to the UUPC with options telling them what is out there with other core changes.  Tim said if assessment is faculty driven it is good for us.

5.  Engineering Initiative

Tony met with engineering dean Karl Stevens at his request. Dr. Stevens described a curriculum initiative in his college with the purpose of creating a "new kind of engineer" and that the core curriculum reform could be of great importance to the initiative.  Dr. Stevens will be joining the Council for Excellence in Undergraduate Education at Tony's suggestions.

6.  Draft Proposal of Subcommittee on Core Revision

Debbie Raines, Cliff McCue, Fred Fejes and Tim Lenz had volunteered to be a subcommittee to work on a draft proposal on core curriculum revision.  It was presented to the CCTF by email prior to this meeting.  All agreed to submit comments and suggestions to Diane to compile.  They will be sent to the members prior to the next meeting at which time a revised draft of the subcommittee's proposal will be attempted.

Next Meeting:  Friday, January 12, 2007, 1:30 p.m.
