Tasha Youstin joined the faculty at FAU in 2011, having studied at the University of Florida for her Master’s degree and John Jay College of Criminal Justice for her Ph.D. Tasha’s research interests include theory testing, sexual offenders and offender policies, and environmental criminology, focusing on the relationship between crime, space and time. Her research has been published in top criminology journals such as Criminal Justice and Behavior, Crime and Delinquency, and Justice Quarterly. She previously taught statistics at John Jay College, and currently teaches Criminology, Criminal Justice Technology, and a variety of other courses at FAU.

2008	ASA/BJS Small Grants Research Program for Analysis of Crime and Justice Data, awarded $30,000 for research entitled From War to Prison: Examining the Relationship between Military Service and Criminal Activity. (with Dr. Richard Culp and Kristin Englander)

2009-Present	Neighborhood Watch, Neighborhood Characteristics, and Collective Efficacy: An Analysis using GIS, Graduate Center- City University of New York, PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR, Awarded $1400 from the Doctoral Student Research Grant Program- Competition #4. Working with a police department in Florida, this grant involved mapping several hundred neighborhood watch programs using ArcGIS, as well as creating a survey mailed to residents assessing levels of participation in neighborhood watch and additional measures of collective efficacy. Ongoing analysis will compare GIS maps with census data and survey results to enable an in depth study of the affects of neighborhood watch programs on neighborhood residents and subsequent levels of criminal activity.
2008- 2009	From War to Prison: Examining the Relationship between Military Service and Criminal Activity, John Jay College, RESEARCH ASSISTANT, with Dr. Richard Culp and Kristin Englander. Awarded $30,000 under the small grants program funded by the American Statistical Association. Assisted in writing and submitting grant, as well as analyzing data from the Current Population Survey. Additionally, served as presenter at various conferences and coauthor on subsequent publications derived from work on the grant.
2008	Security and Privacy: Global Standards for Ethical Identity Management in Contemporary Liberal Democratic Societies, John Jay College, RESEARCH ASSISTANT, Immediate Supervisor: Dr. Peter Mameli (NSF #0619226) Duties included researching the publicized situation in New York regarding allegations that former Governor Spitzer, his cabinet, and the New York State Police Department spied on Senator Bruno. Interest was in the possible abuse of power. Work concluded with the submission of a final report that included a detailed history of the events leading up to the scandal, and how abuse of power by law enforcement may be avoided in the future.
2008	Causes and Context Study: Investigating the Causes and Context of Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church, John Jay College, RESEARCH ASSISTANT, Principal Investigator: Dr. Karen Terry; Immediate Supervisor: Dr. Margaret Smith. Duties included researching various topic areas, such as the evolution of the gay movement in America and trends in sex offender laws and legislation from 1980s to the present. Additional duties included working on survey construction, mailings, and corresponding with potential participants.
2007	Untitled grant from the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation and the Open Society Institute, John Jay College, RESEARCHER, Immediate Supervisor: Dr. Jim Lynch. Working with several other researchers from John Jay College, the grant received from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Open Society Institute helped fund a national survey exploring opinions about crime and immigration. Duties included creating survey questions, analyzing data, and submitting a final report of findings that were presented at the 3rd Annual Guggenheim Symposium held in January 2008, which was attended by journalists, policymakers, and academics from around the country.
