SMALL GROUP TRAINING: Fall 2014

Registration for Session 2 closes on Thursday, Oct. 16

Small Group Training classes merge the best of Group Fitness and Personal Training to give participants a unique opportunity to experience a new level of fitness . These group classes offer the feel of individualized attention and instruction, along with the motivation of others to appropriately progress each participant throughout the course. Small Group Training is also the most affordable way to get the extra guidance you need on your health and fitness journey. All activities are available to all FAU students and Rec Members.

HOW TO REGISTER:

  1. Visit the Membership Office in the Recreation & Fitness Center between the hours of 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  2. Payment must be made in full with a credit or debit card at time of registration.
  3. We do not accept cash, check, or payroll deduction for any Small Group Training class.

 WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Registration will close 4 business days prior to the start of each class.
  • Small Group Training classes require minimum enrollment numbers in order to run. The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment.
  • Credit cards on file will not be charged until it is confirmed that the class will run.
  • No refund will be given after  the registration deadline (except for medical reasons).

Ready to elevate your fitness to the next level?  Come experience a unique full body workout using Kettlebells that will help you increase body awareness, coordination, muscular and core strength, as well as overall power and explosiveness.  Kettlebell training will present a challenging twist to traditional methods that will burn fat, strengthen your core, and open your mind to the world of functional training.

Description:      

This weight training program is exclusively for women, and is designed to introduce the principles and basics of weight training in a comfortable, noncompetitive and nonjudgemental setting!  Learn how to navigate the weight room and create a whole body workout that will help tone and strengthen!  This course will introduce you to a variety of resistance training modalities, and is perfect for those who have wanted to incorporate weight training into their exercise program and do not feel comfortable in the weight room.

Description     

Have you always wanted to run a 5K?  This Couch to 5K program will give you the knowledge, training, and motivation to get you running 3.1 miles in just 7 weeks.  Participants will meet twice per week and run varying distances, building up to 3 miles.  This program will lead up to the FAU Homecoming 5K on October 26, and all program participants will be registered for the 5K race as a team!

Description     

Learn to punch, kick, and combo your way into health with hands on kickboxing instruction, technical work, and bag drills.  This program will take you from never having thrown a punch to learning all the basics of striking.  Combining traditional American Boxing with a mixture of interval training, participants can prepare to fight their way to fitness.

Description     

Muay Thai is the ideal option for anyone looking to venture into a new realm of training.  The class allows participants to become more versatile in fitness, enhance strength & conditioning, and learn the defensive and offensive mechanisms that Muay Thai offers as a Martial Art.  Starting with a strong focus on quality mechanics this class will teach and progress punches, kicks, knees, and defensive technique throughout each 4 week session.  On top of learning a new skill and having fun, students will notice an increase in movement precision, cardio, and physical confidence as a result of this course.
