SMALL GROUP TRAINING: Summer

Small Group Training classes merge the best of Group Fitness and Personal Training to give participants a unique opportunity to experience a new level of fitness . These group classes offer the feel of individualized attention and instruction, along with the motivation of others to appropriately progress each participant throughout the course. Small Group Training is also the most affordable way to get the extra guidance you need on your health and fitness journey. All activities are available to all FAU students and Rec Members.

HOW TO REGISTER:

  1. Visit the Membership Office in the Recreation & Fitness Center between the hours of 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  2. Individuals will sign a waiver when registering indicating the right for Campus Recreation to charge their credit card that is stored by a third party (as a pin number) for the amount of the class once the class runs
    • If the class does not run, the credit card information will be deleted
  3. Payment must be made in full with a credit card
    • We do not accept cash, check, or payroll deduction for any Small Group Training class

 WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Registration will close 4 business days prior to the start of each class
  • Most Small Group Training classes require a minimum of 5 people in order to run. The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment
  • Credit cards on file will not be charged until it is confirmed that the class will run
  • No refund will be given after  the registration deadline (except for medical reasons)

AQUATICS

Beginner Swim

Days: Tuesday & Thursday
Time: 7 a.m. - 8 a.m.
Session 1: 6/3 - 6/26 (4 weeks)
Session 2: 7/15 - 8/7 (4 weeks) 
Price: Student - $56, Member - $64, Non-Member - $80

Description:      

This class is for participants who are not comfortable or become easily exhausted in the water.  The instructor will begin by teaching water adjustment, proper body alignment and use simple, safe drills to encourage proper technique.  A large portion of this class will be focused on developing vital stroke mechanics critical to learning the most fundamental freestyle and backstroke techniques.  Classes will be tailored to any additional individuals wants and needs of its students.

Intermediate Swim

Description:      

Intermediate Swim is for the adjusted swimmer who wants to advance their swimming skills.  The general goals of this class include improved technique and proficiency in freestyle and backstroke, as well as an introduction to butterfly and breaststroke.  The student will gain the ability to use water as a medium for recreation and fitness. (minimum of 5 enrolled)

Our all intensive FITcamp is exactly what you need to start your summer fitness out on the right foot!  Workouts throughout the week are designed to introduce you to a variety of training styles along with small group coaching to identify the program that best fits your goals.  Join us for two weeks of coaching, training, inspiration & education.  Let us help you find your reason to MOVEtoday. Basic Training

Bored with your workouts or feel like you're spinning your wheels?  Take a trip back to the dawn of strength training to improve your strength, power, and muscular coordination.  Kettlebell Training will present a challenging twist to traditional methods that will burn fat, strengthen your core, and open your mind to the world of functional training. Yoga Workshop
Day Saturday

Description     

Come join us for this fun-filled 2-hour yoga workshop where you will go through hands on movement of asanas (poses), pranayamas (breathing techniques), and mudras (hands and feet).  In addition, you will learn information on your individual dosha, how to help balance your dosha, how to apply the technique of Ayurveda.

Description     

Learn to punch, kick and combo your way into health with hands on kickboxing instruction, technical work, and bag drills.  This 4 week program will take you from never having thrown a punch to learning the basics of striking.  Combining traditional American Boxing with a mixture of interval training, participants can prepare to fight their way to fitness.

Description     

Muay Thai is the ideal option for anyone looking to venture into a new realm of training.  The class allows participants to become more versatile in fitness, gain legendary conditioning, and learn the defensive and offensive mechanisms that Muay Thai offers as a Martial Art.  Starting with a strong focus on quality mechanics this class will teach and progress punches, kicks, knees, and defensive technique throughout each 4 week session.  On top of learning a new skill and having fun, students will notice an increase in movement precision, cardio, and physical confidence as a result of this course.

American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Course

Description The purpose of the American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills need to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5 feet.  The course also teaches participants to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.
