Interdisciplinary Studies: Community and Visual Design (CVSD)

The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Community and Visual Design is appropriate for students who wish to design a program of study that spans a broad range of disciplines focused on community development, multimedia, urban space design, and more. The student who wishes to pursue this major should contact the Office of Student Academic Services for advising. As appropriate, the student will be referred to the program director, Dr. Kevin Wagner. Degree Requirements:

In addition to the University and College requirements for admission and graduation, the requirements for the major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Community and Visual Design are as follows:

  • Students choose a primary area of concentration and develop a plan of study in consultation with the program director.
  • A total of 39 credits are required, exclusive of general education courses.
    • 30 of these credits must be upper-division. 
  • 15-18 credits must be in a primary area 
    • 12 credits must be upper-division.
    • No more than 18 credits may be taken in any one area.

Students take courses from the following disciplines or interdisciplinary programs: 

  • Architecture,
  • Multimedia Studies: Film, Video and New Media,
  • Political Science,
  • Public Administration,
  • Sociology, and
  • Visual Arts and Art History 

Urban Planning, Business, and Geography can be approved as secondary areas by the program director Dr. Kevin Wagner at kwagne15@fau.edu. In consultation with and with approval of the program director, appropriate courses from other disciplines may be approved.

All courses for the major must be passed with a grade of "C" or higher and no course taken on a pass/fail basis may be counted for the major.
